Investing in a new HVAC system or other significant home upgrades can be a pretty daunting decision. While a new or upgraded system can save homeowners money, the upfront costs are often a real roadblock to getting started. While everyone wants their home to be comfortable and energy-efficient, many are not sure if they can absorb the costs. But Oncor incentives offer opportunities to upgrade home heating and cooling capabilities while avoiding some of the upfront costs.
Oncor is the largest provider of electricity in Texas, with over 10 million customers. You may not realize it, but if you’re an Oncor customer you already pay a small surcharge on every energy bill to fund incentive programs that help customers in the DFW area make energy-efficient upgrades to their house.
Every year, Oncor runs a set of incentive programs to improve energy efficiency using this money. It’s a win-win situation. By encouraging energy efficiency, Oncor saves on the cost of building new electrical generation installations and meets state government mandates, while their customers save money upgrading their homes to more efficient systems, investing in weatherizing, and more.
But there’s an important point to remember. Oncor only budgets a limited amount of money for their incentive programs each year. Once that money is spent, you’re out of luck until next year. So, read up and take the plunge if you qualify, it’s first come, first served!
Oncor’s incentive program targets key areas that can benefit you by providing real savings in your home energy costs:
Home Energy Efficiency Program
Nearly half of home energy use is consumed by heating and cooling. Replacing outdated and inefficient units with new, high-efficiency models can make a significant difference in your home’s energy consumption, saving you money on your utility bills every month.Low-Income Weatherization Incentive
Older homes often benefit from improvements to the insulation in your attic, walls, and floors, plus caulking and sealing of windows, doors, and the installation of weather stripping or even new windows. Oncor incentives can help pay for this vital work.Solar Photovoltaic Residential Incentive
Have you considered the benefits of adding solar panels to your home? Oncor incentives may be able to help you defray some of the upfront costs.LED Lighting and Smart Thermostats
Considering a smart thermostat, or doing upgrades to your lighting? Oncor incentives can help pick up some of the tab. You can learn more about all of Oncor’s energy incentive programs at Take a Load Off Texas.
Replacing an existing air-conditioning, heating, or HVAC system can pay off big. In some cases, you may be able to save up to $125 per month, depending on the type, size, and age of your current system. Factor in Oncor incentives and manufacturer rebates and you’ll probably be able to install a new system for monthly payments of significantly less than that. The result is extra money in your pocket each month!
