2022 Oncor Incentive Programs

February 8, 2022

Summary

Many Texas residents rely on Oncor as their source of electricity. In fact, Oncor is the largest transmission and distribution utility in the state. Oncor has a solid history of helping its customers improve their energy efficiency through incentive program offerings, including the popular Take a Load Off Texas.

The 2022 Oncor Incentive Program has begun, and funds are available for a variety of upgrades to improve energy efficiency and reduce the electricity use in your home. In this article, we'll look at the 2022 Oncor Incentive Programs and let you know how Team Enoch can help you out.

Understanding Oncor incentives

Oncor customers pay a small surcharge on every energy bill to fund programs that make it more affordable for homeowners to make energy efficiency upgrades to their homes.

Oncor's energy efficiency programs are a win-win. Oncor saves on the cost of building new electrical generation installations, has reduced loads during periods of peak demand, and meets state government mandates, while their customers save money on their utility bills by upgrading their homes to higher efficiency HVAC systems or a central air conditioner, investing in weatherizing, adding solar power, and more.  In short, they become more energy efficient.

These offerings from Oncor vary from year to year, so it's not safe to assume that an incentive program that was offered last year will be offered again, or that the same amount of money will be available for homeowners in the form of rebates.

Let's examine the 2022 incentives offered by Oncor.

2022 Oncor incentive programs

One important fact to remember about these programs is that Oncor only budgets a limited amount of money for them. Once the pot of money has been used up, opportunities for customers will disappear until next year.

Because this is a first-come, first-served program, it's important to schedule your work right away so you can take advantage of any benefits. All of the programs we'll be discussing open for applications on February 1st.

Each incentive program targets different key areas that can benefit you, and provide real savings in your home energy costs. The main categories for residential customers are:

  • Home energy efficiency
  • Residential solar
  • Low-income weatherization

Let's examine some of the important points of each of these programs.

Home Energy Efficiency program

The Home Energy Efficiency Standard Offer Program (HEE SOP) is available to all Oncor residential customers. Oncor calculates the incentive based on two factors: the size of the space and the type of new units for the heating system or cooling system employed. If you qualify, you can receive incentive payments and enjoy a lower utility bill.

For HVAC systems, Oncor offers programs for upgrades that meet the following conditions:

  • Packaged units, split and mini-split units, DC inverter systems, are all eligible
  • Cooling systems must meet at least 12 EER for cooling (Energy Efficiency Ratio)
  • Heat pumps must meet at least an 8.5 HSPF standard (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor)
  • A minimum capacity of 1.5 tons, maximum capacity of 65,000 BTU/h (5.4 ton)

There are three different options available for heating and cooling upgrades:

  • The Reserve Option covers single-family to fourplex dwellings. Incentives range from $500 to $15,000.
  • The HVAC Option offers incentives of up to $2,800 for single-family homes.
  • The  Multifamily HVAC Option is geared toward apartment complexes with incentives of up to $1,000,000.

Team Enoch can help with HEE SOP incentives

It can be confusing to know what incentives apply toward upgrades for your home. Team Enoch can help you take advantage of the options available to purchase a new energy-efficient HVAC system available to you without even paying a visit. Here's how:

It’s easy to find out if you qualify for Oncor incentives. Here’s how:

  • Take a picture of the meter base on your home.
  • Take a photo of the data plate on your outdoor condenser. Be sure the model and serial number can be seen clearly.
  • Take a photo of the outside unit far enough away so that the entire unit can be seen.

We need a photo of your indoor unit from 5-10 feet away.

Don’t worry, you’ll never get pushy sales calls from Enoch. We’ll provide you with a well-crafted email detailing the best possible deal and let you take it from there.

Low-Income Weatherization program

This program offers cash incentives for households with an income level pegged at 200% of the Federal poverty line. Weatherization can provide excellent cost savings through lower energy consumption without requiring large investments in new equipment like a new heating system.

There are three main energy efficiency measures that provide the maximum benefit.

  • Insulation reduces heat flow through walls and ceilings and makes homes much more energy efficient. Ceiling insulation must be rated at least R-22, and wall insulation rated at R-13.
  • Caulking around openings in your home, like window frames and door frames will reduce air loss from your home.
  • Weatherstripping, such as foam gaskets around openings is also covered by the low-income weatherization incentive.

Solar Photovoltaic Residential incentive

Adding solar panels to your home can reduce energy costs, and when paired with battery storage can provide backup power to your home. Oncor incentives may be able to help you defray some of the upfront costs.

LED lighting, smart thermostats, and more

Considering a smart thermostat, adding high-efficiency lighting, or buying new appliances? The Oncor program can help pick up some of the tab.

Save money with a new HVAC system and enjoy Oncor incentives

Replacing an existing air-conditioning, heating, or HVAC system can pay off big. In some cases, you may be able to save up to $125 per month in electricity, depending on the type, size, and age of your current system.

Factor in Oncor incentives and manufacturer rebates and you’ll probably be able to install a new system for monthly payments of significantly less than that. The result is extra money in your pocket each month!
